What is Taiwanese 16-Tile Mahjong?

Taiwanese mahjong is a fast, social four-player game built around hands of 16 tiles — three more than the Hong Kong or Japanese styles. It has its own scoring unit, its own flower tiles, and its own rhythm. These guides teach all of it in plain English, one step at a time.

16 tiles per hand

Larger hands than most other mahjong variants.

Scored in tai (台)

Points are counted in tai — the heart of Taiwanese scoring.
